Subject: Anyone want to hear about my little soil test?

I read in an old ortho Fertilizer book, to fill a fairly straight jar with 2/3 water then add soil till the jar was full. Shake vigorously till it was all mixed up then watch it settle. This way you can make a rough estimate for percentages of sand, silt, and clay. Still waiting for the results. I'll post later of what I learned other than the kids had fun making mud pies in the warm weather today....Tom

Tom It should also show the percentage of organic material at the top or floating

It definately needs more organic mat. I figure that it will take a few years to get the soil to where I would like it to be....Tom

As of right now it looks like the clay material is still in suspension. But with what has settled it looks about 15-20% sand 70-75% silt and the rest clay.
