What do you think of this idea I would like to see how a pumpkin or squash will grow in different parts of north america, First we have to decide which seed to use I think most gorwers here have 455 andrews if not maybe we could beg glenn for a few if that is the seed we all decide to go with. Rule one must make a post once a week during the growing season. On the plants progress and the size of leaves vine size, pumpkin size ect, pictures would also be nice. Rule two fruit must be weighed at a weighoff or fair. Rule three can not be weighed any later thatn oct 19th 2002 all growers that involved in the weigh off will give seeds from there fruits to each grower. I will send all the different crosses I make in 2002 to the winner. And hopefully the rest of the gowers will agree to do the same. if anyone is interested please reply. Mark ...P

Hi Mark P.
Sounds good to me. I too am going to grow the 455 Andrews 00. I will be crossing it with the 218 Andrews. I hope to see a monster green one....Carrie

Sounds like a cool idea. The Grower Diary section of the site could be used to track the progress and pictures.

I'm sure Glen will part with one for nothing. And as far as the contest, I think it's a great idea. I'll be growing one but as a pollinator, so it will only have a main vine & a few 2ndarys. So I'll be handicapped, but thats ok I luv a challenge. Now I am putting a 455 in my main hill as a backup to my 900. And I know Glen " I'll be sorry I done it....LOL" And Glen when it comes time for my "wife" to snip one off , no private emails to Billie without my knowledge. No insider trading so to speak.....LOL What I'm getting at is it's a great idea & let the games begin.........Paul

Oh yea ! If the 455 does beat out the 900. My back up in the pollinating hill will then be the Welty 744.......Paul

I was ask by a grower to move the final day of the fruit being weighed to by a week I think that would alright with everyone. So we will make the last date to be weighed will be Halloween. Also think to enter you must make a post in the Diary section of big pumpkins by apirl 15th stating that you a have entered The Great 455 Weighoff. any other ideas for the weighoff or objections to moving the date to Halloween for the last date to be weighed please post. Mark..P
