Do the Atlantic Giants need about 120 days to mature? What would be an appropriate time to actually plant the seeds (indoor/outdoor)? If I plant June 1st, 120 days would put it around October 1st. Is this a good time to plant?...Tom

Tom, good question! You have grown up quite a bit, I for one am proud of you. You were showed the right way. You have some growing up top do, but for the most part have relenquished you bad habits, and am asking more cultural questions. Now for the answer. Most growers start May 1 or in that vecinity. What I have noticed is that the warmer your climate, the less time your plant needs to mature. If I were you, I would start the seed in the house, about May 15 given your location. You can start earlier, but given the heat in your area, I would not set fruit until July 10. This is just my thoughts. Nothing is for sure, do some more research on the topic. Tom Beachy

Last year I planted around June 1st.(this was before I learned about BigPumpkins.com). My thinking was that I did not want an AG to "sit" around for all of Sept. before the fall decorations go up. I originally started growing them for my kids. Now I am going to "try" to raise them in the Giant way.....Tom(Bantam)

I'm wondering if I plant eariler if the pkin would loose lots of weight by weigh off..120(4 months),So if I plant in March,,I would be thru by July,,the beggining of summer,,but that leaves me 3 months before any weigh offs and shows..So looks like June is best for me....I want a 1000 lber,,but really doubt one can be grown down here..The weather is way to harsh...

That is what I was thinking, jeff. I feel that I would rather have a growing pumpkin later in the season than one that is finished earlier on and maybe losing weight. Being fairly new to this I dont want a finished pumpkin in the middle of Augest...Tom

Hey Tom, If this gives you something to go by let me know. Our weighoff in Circleville is the 3rd week in Oct. so I'll plant between May 14th & 18th depending on the weather......Paul

Thanks for all of the advice. I think it will work. Maybe I'll plant a few at different times. Last year from ground to removal of pumpkin was only 96 days because of stem split....Tom
