Does anyone know if this packet contains one or two seeds? It reads, a packet of seed. Just thought someone might know for sure. The bid is at $50 already!

For all of the new, and unexperienced growers out there, just because a pumpkin was big does not mean that it's seeds will grow a big pumpkin. Some more advice to new growers, try to get some semi proven seeds as well. A seed that has grown over 900 pounds is worth more than a seed that is unproven. An example of this is the 1061 Zehr, it was the world record pumpkin in 1996. To the best of ny knowledge, it dod not grow a pumpkin over 800 pounds. Just something to think about.

Hey Scott, thinks for giving me the confidence I need! I mailed a letter to her YESTERDAY! I know I wont be able to afford the auction, but didn't think shed waste her time sending me (newbie) some seeds. NOW I HAVE SOME HOPE! As far as growing an unproven seed, I think its a chance worth taking. HAs there ever been a world record that has had BAD seeds? Just curious how that looks Statisticaly? The parents are proven seeds right? 940 and 801.5. So how can this cross go bad. Your right, Im new and welcome your opinion, and anyone elses! Thanks

I would love to see if she had an extra seed to spare. If anyone knows how I could contact her and ask, please email me privately. Thanks...

Junior,

As far as I know, I think the record paid for 1 seed would have to be $601, (for a 705 Stelts at the O.V.G.P.G. auction). The 705 pumpkin split early on, and I don't think too many seeds were saved, but it is highly sought after. Two years ago, you could but a pack of 2(705) seeds for $5. I'm sure Geneva Emmons is "swamped" with seed requests. This sure is a great hobby when dedicated and generous "celebrity" growers will send you their top seeds for only a simple request and some postage! Let's just remember that they send seeds with hopes that you may grow them and "prosper", not turn around and sell them and "profit"! Thanks, Geneva for being such a "class act"!

Well said Kilr,
And the best way to get the next "hot" seeds is to go to the AGGC site , do your homework on this years seed & go after those as they will be very easy to obtain because they are unproven. Then grow the ones you want, keep some back & you never know you might have next years must have seed..........Paul

Man I sure hope she has some left when she gets my letter! Ya it's great that these #1 people will give them out so willingly. So how many people plan on growing the 1262, or would if they had the seed? Hey Paul, your right SWEEEEEET! Mike

Don, and Geneva Emmons are two of the nicest folks you could ever hope to meet. Kilr is correct, their generosity should not be exploited for personal gain. Lets grow some big pumpkins, and remember the kindness these class acts have shown to us.

I recieved this message from Geneva today:

The big pumpkins from 2001 produced a small number of seeds. I do not have enough seeds available to fill the requests that have already arrived and more requests are arriving daily!
The last few requests have stated that they read on <bigpumpkins.com> that I was giving away seeds.
It is true that the seeds I distribute are free but I hate for people to think that there are 2000 and 2001 seeds available (from my largest pumpkins).
Thanks,
Geneva Emmons

Geneva also wanted me to post her correct address:

Geneva Emmons

Sammamish, WA 98075

To eliminate confusion, I edited "Walcott Pumpkin"'s previous post with her prior address.
