I was just thinking about this spring. When is the best time to plow under the rye? My thinking is I want the rye to be green and not go to seed or I will have rye with my pie(I mean the rye that went to seed will sprout and grow with my pumpkins). I'm thinking of plant the AG seeds around Mid May to the 1st of June...Tom

tom , the general rule of thumb is to till in your cover crop 2-3 weeks before you plant that gives it some time to break down

Tom, I like to put up my green house frame, then wait untill one week before setting out my seedlings and then plow up the rye in the green house area. I want as much growth as possible. I then plow up the rest of the patch and work in amendments the middle of june two weeks prior to removing my greenhouses.

I thought that once seed rye was cut that it's growth is done for. It has been too long since I took agriculture classes and I can't remember that far back...Tom
