There are several ways to start your seed, VG. Read The how-to page on this site to start with.

pappy gave you good advice on seed starting as for when to start close to may 1st you'll need some form of frost protection again check the how to section of this site for some ideas until after your last expected frost date

Last year I started mine inside during Easter or spring break.

I started mine indoors the last week in April. But after I plant them outdoors, I give them plenty of protection from cold and frost.

if you plant too early plants become root bound this could effect plant performance when pumpkins start forming i believe len s. from rush n.y. wrote about this last year

Is 120 days about the life span of the plant?

Darkey- The life span of the plant is determined by the length of your growing season. It's not a fixed amount. gordon

So the longer you can can have the plant growing b4 the day you have to harvest the pumkin the better. On the day that I will have to pick for the show my pumpkin will be 70 days old and the plant 130days How old is the pumkin b4 it reaches its peak?

Now you've asked the real questions... how long do pumpkins grow? and the answer is that varies...depending on climate. generally here in the States and Canada growers try for approximately 90 days of pumpkin growth (the first week in July to the first week of October), and plant around the beginning of May for approximately 150 days of the live of the plant. but very large pumpkins have been grown in 50-60 days. and many pumpkins stop there growth some time before the weigh-off but growers can't weigh them till weigh off day. again it varies with climate. So it sounds like you are doing fine but maybe could have started a little sooner. good luck !
