Here's my stab at why there arent as many large fruit from selfed seeds and squash as there are from crossed lines. They are planted as much!! To most growers, selfed seeds look boring! Who cares if the plant characteristics are awesome, or shape and color are great. Since they arent a cross of last year's 1000lb producers, they must not be any good. Same with squash. Selfed seeds are selfed for a reason (or they should be). That is to preserve desirable genetics.

Hey Joe, I think you are right on track. And the reason we haven't seen any "true" 1000 lb squash is because it doesn't pay "$$$$" . It's all about the almighty dollar to most people & until the prize money grows for squash it won't change anytime soon..........Paul
