Pumpkin Shepherd

Georgetown, Ontario

This is my second year growing (first year serious) and I ended up with more pumpkin than I ever imagined. I have one 525 lbs, one 345 lbs, one 289 lbs and one 377 lbs on three plants. My problem is they have to stay right were they are unless I can borrow a lifting strap from someone. I can likely arrange a skid steer to do the lifting. I am ordering a lifting strap from P&P seeds (because next year I'm going to get REAL seriuos)but it likely won't get here for a few weeks. So if you have a strap I can borrow for a day and are near Georgetown, send me an email please and we can maybe work something out. Thanks
John

At that size you could roll them onto a tarp or so and pick them up with 3 or 4 men.

Not near georgetown but you can easily lift those out with a tarp doubled up and 4 or 5 budies as long as you have cold beverage waiting for after loading.

John, I agree with the others. Use a good strong tarp folded over a few times to lift it onto a pallet. A few (4-5) strong guys should be able to handle it without any problems. You can then use the Skid Steer to lift the pallet & pumpkin onto the back of the truck.

Will we see you at Port Elgin? If so, come over & introduce yourself at the GVGO table in the grower's section of the weigh off tent. I'm sure that our members can help you reach your goals for 2009. Good luck.
