A bunch of people have asked this winter which I think will have the better potential. I've been saying I don't know, and that there isn't really a precedent for a good selfed pumpkin which also pollinated a sib.

My memory must be getting worse.

The 1742 Wolf (2145 x self) & 1826 Wolf (2145 x sib) - the pollinator for the 1826 was the 1742 plant.

The progeny list of the 1742 and 1826 are almost identical, and I have a feeling that the final weight potential will be similar between the 2493 & 2006. The 1742 seemed to go a little heavier to the chart, and I expect that to be a the way with the 2493.

Good luck to those who are planning on growing either this year. I've sent out about 400 of each, so I am now effectively out of them.

One interesting tidbit - the 2493 was grown in the exact same spot as the 1742, and the 2006 was in the spot where the 1826 was grown. Didn't plan it that way, just happened.

1725 Harp was self and did pretty well

How similar in characteristics was the 2174 Daletas grown in your 2021 patch to the 1885 plant? Color, shape?
I don't see any progeny from the 1357 Wolf to compare what was really in the paternal half of the newest best proven seed.
The further different the grandparents of a selfed seed, the more likely the progeny will have wider variation.
We won't really know until after both seeds are grown for a few years
It is more interesting to consider what the 2174 did in the cross to add such potential. Or maybe the 1885 x something that adds heaviness or a stronger blossom = success (2110 Platte could also be quite good if planted more)

If I hadn't broken the main vine, I have a feeling that plant would have been capable of 2k.

Nobody grew the 1357 that I know of. I had been thinking of doing 1885 x 1357, just in case there was something special with that particular plant as a pollinator.

I think the 2493 certainly will be an amazing pollinator, whether or not it produces well this year. Good shape, super heavy, big pumpkin. The 2006 will be as well, though it wasn't as heavy, it had amazing color and a good shape as well. I think both these seeds have amazing potential to push the genetics forward if used properly

I’m growing both the 2493 and the 2006 this year. Hopefully I will get both plants to the scale with a decent pumpkin that can be used as a comparison.

I’m growing a 2006 & a 2365. They are #1 &#2 of the 7 plants I’m growing. But the 2006 is just a little bit bigger & better. I pollinated a 4 lober on the 2006 this marking at 18’ with 25 secondaries before the fruit. I don’t foresee any regrets with this plant!
