               Has anyone correlated the shape/color of the femal pumpkin shape below the bloom to the final pumpkin shape? I have about 15 blooms growing on 4 plants (not yet ferilized). Some are round, some are long and thin, some oare very orange, some more white.
  Thanks for any notes and comments.

               You would think they would always carry the traits of the parents...not always true. We planted (16) 1370 Rose x self seeds of the same plant one year. I made notes on vine color, female shape, and general plant looks. We had a 50/50 mix of beautiful red orange symmetric fruit and the other half cantelouped and fruit with a nose. I also planted some Turks Turbans x AG that year...they threw the same

               I had a long and thin one below the bloom last year and it stayed long and cylinder shaped until the day it was harvested. The color isn't as predictable.

               interesting!  I think I will take pictures of pre pumpkin shapes and final shape. I will post in my journal. One more piece of trivia no one cares about, but me. :>}

               If they stay the same shape as they grow. It would seem like a possible way to grow only the ones with a structurally strong shape.

               Generally the shape of the female stays about the same but not always.

               In 2010 I grew some Lowes seeds. See the before and after... long and skinny grew long and skinny.
