Hey all, If you are trying to preserve certain traits in a given fruit would you be more apted to self pollinate or cross it with a sibling off the same fruit....or does it not really matter??? Just something I have been wondering!!! Erik

Preservation obviously requires self-pollination, since crossing it (even with a sibling) still induces genetic variation. Of course, there's no way of targeting which traits will be preserved, even if you self it.

I believe x sib is better. Selfing can bring out recessive traits. A few years ago I tried the x self for 3 generations.

  735 Pukos (846 Calai 1999 x self ) 891 Tanner 2004 (735 Pukos 2001 x Self) 503 Tanner (891 Tanner 2004 x self)
The traits I wanted to keep from the 735 were not there.
