Second year grower here and am seeking advice to help my decision of which plant to cull. My 1866 Cleveland has been the quickest grower and has beautiful lush green leaves and the vine is on the ground about 5 feet out. However I noticed a kink in the main vine about 16” from the stump when it started to lay over. It doesn’t appear to be stunting the growth but I think I could be taking a risk by leaving it..The plant beside it is healthy and a good looking plant but a foot shorter. I’m also getting hung up on the fact that it is from a much smaller pumpkin 750 1928x1911. The genetics are most certainly there.
Please share your thoughts and opinions as I will be culling a plant this week. Thanks in advance.

No pics there yet, but if that's (1928 Daletas X 1911 Urena) and even if not, any and all seeds need a chance for them to ever get to be of any repute, so, the foot shorter is now 1:1 with the kink in the main; I, myself have a 1985 Miller that flopped over unannounced, splaying the main vine wide open and yet, that will be of a lesser and lesser concern as any vine burying otherwise is accomplished. If neither has a track record yet then it's still up to you and literally a coin toss in the end. In the end of ends though, the one with nothing wrong with it would be the common choice. I've often thought that growers should allow a potential cull to have even just its main go out the side and far out of the way, to SEE what it could have been, at least as far as the potential color were concerned. No help here but why waste the typing - Good Luck - eg

If that plant is your better plant i'd keep it kink and all.Pile dirt up under the kink to support it so the wind doesnt keep working it side to side.

Tough choice they both look reasonably good. I'd probably give it a couple more days and pick the faster growing one.

I've had a kink in main vine before, it doesn't seem to slow them down.

Thank you everyone for sharing your advice . There is a decent storm happening right now which might make my decision for me. I will give it two more days and make the cull. I am leaning towards culling the 1866 .
