I have been reading about oozing and foaming stumps. I don't even see my stump. I covered it up with dirt as I did with all the vines as they started growing. Should I burry the stump???

you can build a stump cover out of a piece of plexiglass and reclaimed wood from pallets or install a tarp. just try to keep the stump dry. mine foamed and died this year, but i have a 1623 wallace x self doing quite well on a secondary with all vines buried without the functioning stump. Life goes on!!

So,.. Burry it and then from time to time unburry it, check it for health, then each time re-burry it??? Or just leave it in-buried from the beginning?

Do not bury the stump! Air flow around the stump promotes good health. This time of year you should uncover much of the rest of the vines.

Definitely unburry the stump and make a shelter as I described - stump needs to stay dry!

I have been burying the main and all side vines. Except of course 2' before and after the punkin, or more if needed...

I'd start by burying at each node (where a leaf emerges). It is key to let the secondary pop first at each node before you bury, then proceed to bury each at each node on the secondaries as well. A tap root will automatically shoot down at each node, and another will usually come from the top side of the node too.

Some people trench for burying vines and other bury the entire secondary. I cannot do either here due to disease from high humidity and wet summers recently.
