Not sure if that´s the right place for this question, but I assume he belongs to the group of "new growers" on BP. During 2015 and beginning of 2016 this Cocuzza guy was the one who sort of asked for seeds of all kinds of interesting veggies (incl. giant pumpkins) and he also started a diary in 2015, but as soon as the 2016 growing season began, I have the impression he disappeared from BP. Dear Cocuzza, you asked for seeds so often, and I guess alot of growers had sent some of their great seeds to you, therefore (even though I understand that you perhaps prefer to dedicate your time to the plants right now, in times when they need your attention and care the most), it would be great if you posted some occasional updates of the results you´ve gotten out of the many seeds from the many other growers. At least I assume you must have achieved some great results, because I only know your BP name in the context of someone asking for seeds, I haven´t come across a "Cocuzza" who had been asking for hints, advise, help, suggestions, etc. etc.

I sent him seeds...and followed up with an email on june 12th. He never replied. One of his last posts on BP was one asking for long gourd seeds, he said it was for a vert young girl in new york, and gave out her address. Ken D wisely delated that post. There are a few other new growers that I sent seeds out at my expense. They are not answering my emails either..two come to mind that were in the same situation as cocuzza. New grower, put a few entries into a diary....and then no word again.

If you guys were serious about growing..this site would help. The joy of pumpkins is not getting the seeds...it is seeing what you can do with them.

that ungrateful prick... I hope he's got downy mildew...I don't really need thanks for sending seeds although it is a nice courtesy, and just a nice thing to do in general...I sent that hotsupper pumpkin seeds...good genetics too, long gourd, watermelon/squash/tall sunflowers, big head sunflowers /a bag of a dozen or so ghost peppers, and a book on how to grow giant pumpkins.!!...who the hell can't get excited enough to say thanks about that package!?...maybe he ate a ghost pepper and had a heart attack.... Qtip sent me a busted can of dinty Moore soup, I think I thanked him four times!!!....interesting dude though ...maybe not speaka English no good??

On behalf of the new growers that are not ungrateful pricks, I would like to thank this site and all the guys on it that spend there own time to answer questions, provide information, and offer seeds so that FNG's that are interested in growing can take that first step. I am very grateful for free seeds from last year and now that I have got my feet wet I definitely plan on participating in a few auctions next season. Thanks!!!

bma113...we really like the new growers that are really growers. Hope your plants are doing great...cant let that q-tip guy run away with new grower honors. Of course...have to like the fact that q-tip does say thank you, sends emails when he sees something interesting in a diary, posts in his own diary, enters fun posts on the board and shares his super secret new grower fertilizer "dinty moore" with the old timers that didnt have a clue of its potential. Welcome both of you to the giant growers world.

last year he sent me pictures of his garden. I have no doubt that he tried growing. He also sent me an email that had a soil sample test that was done at the end of the year. I know that if he would have used this site for good advice..he could be growing a very nice pumpkin this year. He had trouble with this format. Facebook was more his style. I feel bad that he ran away from the best site he could get help from....but maybe he was not meant to be a giant pumpkin grower.

Sorry for the delayed response, but the wife and I had a date night so I was out drinking away my soros from the loss of my first kin yesterday!!! Just want to make sure one bad apple don't ruin the generosity of so many guys on this site. Plan on paying it forward this winter if I can make it through the rest of the season.

Sorry to hear you lost one Bma. I agree with you. Without the willingness of people on this site to help out complete strangers there would be a lot of growers who tried once and gave up. Guys like Porkchop, bnot, Pumpking, Hank, etc etc etc are what keep us new guys excited and educated, and keep this hobby growing. Im sure cocuzza appreciated the help. Maybe growing just wasn't his thing.

Good to see you are back, even better would it be to see diary entries of yours. I was surprised to see that you sent a pic to bnot and he instantly had an idea as to what kind of troubles your plant might suffer. With a diary and occasional posts on the message board (or even occasional emails to bnot) your issues might have been solved (at least in part) much earlier.

I didn't know no liner should not be put where the pumpkin vine is I just wanted it to be weed free

8/5/2016 8:11:26 AM

bnot

Oak Grove, Mn

the weed barrier under all your vines meant you were getting water from only the stump..now you know what to do about that. Any sign of a female blossum yet?

8/5/2016 10:42:59 AM

BIG SHOW DOG

Kentucky, U.S.A.

If you are running a tiller anywhere near the plant, you are hitting roots. Root damage will cause the lack of baby pumpkins. Roots shoot out side ways from the main vine and extend up to four feet past the longest side vine, and taper back as you work toward the tip. Weeding can damage roots as well. I know, I learn by doing stupid!!!!!

8/15/2016 12:02:16 PM

Cocuzza

Bnot I got female flowers and a small male gonna come in the next week or so I covered some more of the roots that best way is in my pumpkin patch not to use a weed liner

8/15/2016 9:25:20 PM

bnot

Oak Grove, Mn

the way you had your weed liner...you were losing both the first and second set of roots from each leaf node. You could use the liner between the vines..but don't block the roots from getting into the ground. Good luck with your females..hopefully you will get a male to open on the same day as the female opens.
