Goodmorning,
Below is a link to my first ever pumpkin. I hand pollinated it on the 25th of june. And then i had knee surgery, which put me out for a couple of weeks. So I come back, the pumpkin is growing ok, but the stem is right at the bottom, and not straight to the side. Pumpkin is about 16 inches across. Is there any way to reposition it still, or anything to do for it? Just worried the stem is going to get squashed when the pumpkin gets bigger.

Thanks in advance,
johan

Cut or raise the tap root immediately behind the stem. It is probably rooted now and keeping the stem close to the ground.... Slip a pair of scissors under it and clip it

Alright, after cutting the tap root, is it possible to reposition the pumpkin? And if so, how would i go about it? Don't want to have anything break and ruin it.

Yes, Stem to blossom end parallel to the ground if you drew a line thru the pumpkin. Try to position the fruit on the outside of a vine curve. Imaging it 4 foot across on its back shoulders....and see if it would cross the main vine adjust it now while its still small, do a little each day side to side, but tilt it straight now.

And check your pumpkin every day for positioning.... This is important to prevent stem stress and splits.

You may need to cut at least one tap root each side of the stem as well to loosen things up. Move it only in the heat of the day, never in the morning. Stems and vines are very brittle early in the morning. If you have a secondary vine coming out under the pumpkin you will need to cut that one off too.
