I have two fruit set on the main vine. One at 12' and one at 15'. The one at 12' will be DAP14 on Sunday. The one at 15' will be DAP14 on Thursday. The one at 15' is better positioned, but my gut says slower growing. Perhaps the one at 12' is keeping it from growing faster?

My plan is to measure each on DAP14, and again on DAP20 and compare and make a decision.

Does this seem like a good plan. Is DAP20 too early to start culling?

That is a good plan.

If you wait that long the second fruit will likely abort so turn you first fruit perpendicular to the vine and plant on going with it.

DJW-be careful in making the decision. I have read some of the diaries here and the seasoned growers recommend moving the fruit chosen during the warmest part of the day and only by small amounts. Thanks everyone for your advice because I am thinking over this decision on my own plant. I try to place a mat of choice under my fruit early on before the weight picks up. I also read here on this site that we should partially cut the fruit that is not chosen before making the final cut, so nutrients do not rush to the chosen one and possibly abort it. I hope I am getting this correct just let me know.
thanks!

Before you cull any of the kins track each ones growth, position on the main vine, and formation of the lobes on the blossom end.

cull soon imo. The first one is taking from the latter. Go with your gut

Thanks for all the input guys. My gut was that the pollination at 15' was growing too slow, and I started to suspect the pollination didn't take. It never seemed shiny enough. Yesterday I found it to have shown zero growth and was getting soft. So decision made whether I wanted to or not. All in on the set at 12'
