So we moved to Kansas last year and secured a community garden plot this year. I decided that I wanted to grow a "giant" pumpkin and purchased the burpee version of the seed. I managed to get 2 plants going, somehow thinking that 20 feet of raised bed would be enough. How wrong I was.
I had 2 gorgeous vines, left on vacation, only to find that they started yellowing upon my return... (I suspect squash vine borer/bacterial wilt), but the one vine still had a decent pumpkin started on it... one of my wife's co-workers, upon hearing our uninformed attempt at growing giant pumpkins, loaned us a book... Backyard giants. Upon reading Ron's 1500 pounder in 06, and then his one ton +9 last year, I am inspired.
I'll post a pic later, but I think my north vine is toast... it only has a single pumpkin on it and hasn't grown hard at all in the past 2 weeks.
My south vine is struggling, but the pumpkin continues to grow. I cut 2 runner vines off of the stump, and will probably cut the third off as well (the vine with the pumpkin on it seems like it is slowly greening back up).
I realize that I am probably not going to get much over 50lbs, but I was wondering if it is too late to bury the vine?

Thanks! I yanked the north vine... it was rooted down next to the south vine and the 1 fruit at the end had started rotting out...
I laid out the south vine on the soil and buried it... hoping it will take root...
