Reed's Birds and Bees

Savage, MN

Now that I have you here, I want to get to know the people on this site. I know about some of the giant growers from facebook but I know a lot of you don't have that. So if you know me or not you should post what you do or what you like to do outside of growing giant vegetables.
I have many hobbies outside of growing giant vegetables.
- I raise many animals including chickens, pheasants, quail, and crested geckos. (I like almost all animals but I really like raising birds and reptiles.)
- I am a beekeeper.
- I grow super hot peppers.
- I go hunting, trapping, and fishing quite a bit.
- I collect rocks and fossils.
Your turn, What do you like to do outside of growing.
(Sorry for baiting you in with the politics subject, I figure its the only way to get people to view the post, lol.)

Sure, I'll take the bait, lol! Great idea for a thread, Reed. You a grower of many talents, I see! Crested geckos sound like an adventure to raise!

I enjoyed raising chickens, ducks, cows, dogs, cats, and gerbils also while I was growing up. I'm down to 3 cats now that I live in suburbia.

Camping is fun here in the Pacific Northwest with plenty of beautiful places to visit. Would like to go more often but gardening has taken priority in recent years. Nature and wilderness photography is fun, haven't done much with it recently.

Grand Sumo is an interesting sport, plus the opportunity to learn a bit of Japanese language and culture along the way. I also enjoy travel since it provides the opportunity to try different cuisines, learn new things, and meet interesting people. It's fun to try to cook traditional foreign cuisine as well, with a nice Bordeaux or something, too!

Gaming is fun too, from Pac-Man and family, through all the versions of Civilization, global server-hopping on Uru, creating goofy buildings in Minecraft, and I'm a level 176 in Red Dead Redemption 2 online, so look out all you bad boys, lol!

I've also done quite a bit of home improvement including retexturing most of the interior of this house, painting, plumbing, removing cheesy 70's wall paneling, all the super-fun stuff, lol!

I hope that other growers will take the bait and post on this thread for more fun!

lol Reed. Doubt I need to post just will say I am also into bees... Hobby farming, geology, saving the world... or at least not destroying it. I pick up trash, recycle & dont enjoy wastefulness. I might teach beekeeping this year and/or be a stay-at-home dad.

Right now, most hobbies are on a hold. Having to work 50 hours + per week to afford my house and support my daughter makes time limited. But in the past, besides growing I have had many hobbies. Eventually will hope to get back into most of them. Some of them, photography especially macro, long distance bicycling...randonneuring, wilderness canoeing and camping, radio controlled model aircraft, music with a focus on building high end guitars, and competitive chess. Life is too short for all the fun activities that are available.

I have been retired for 6 years 8 months. Luckily I could take regular retirement instead of disability, as that takes forever. I definitely do not miss trudging for miles over steep muddy fields or surveying stinking feedlots.

Most of my time is spent doing the shopping, cooking, laundry, etc. and being everyone's driver. I get up every morning to make my wife's breakfast and lunch. Since she is younger than me and doesn't have the federal retirement system like I did, it is the least I can do.

Fishing is probably my favorite pastime. I am lucky that my wife and son like it as much as I do,and my daughter tolerates fishing for crappie, bluegill and catfish.

I enjoy deer and turkey hunting, But my arthritis and titanium knee limit me from hunting the rough bluff land in the area where the real big bucks hang out. It is good to have a big strong hunting partner like Jacob to help drag my deer out of the woods.
