If you look at the guiness records, eggplant is not listed for heavy, for long or anything. So how does a grower set the first world record? What variety, would be the best starting point?

If you are familiar with the eggplant emoji, what bettter bragging rights than to say you grew the biggest eggplant in the world.

Log on to the Guinness website and apply for the record. Just be aware that the 12 week response time won't be met for a new category.I'm currently on week 18 and still waiting. I'll be applying shortly for a few new categories for next season. No guarantee of a response or of acceptance of a new category. Unfortunately, public perception is that it's not a true world record if Guinness doesn't recognize it. Personally, I believe if a person grows the largest or runs the fastest and everything is legit and all i's doted and t's crossed, witnesses, etc. then it's a legitimate record and the person responsible should be proud of what they did. If a Publishing company looking to make a profit doesn't feel it's worth their time to acknowledge or accept, that doesn't diminish the accomplishment.Go ahead and grow the largest eggplant and we'll all be rooting for you while you're growing and showering you with praise when you succeed :)

There is a Guinness world record for eggplant (aubergine).
WR: 3.06 kg / 6.75 lbs - Ian Neale, UK (2018)
That being said, I've seen huge eggplants in some African countries that might have been heavier but were never weighed.

thanks Brad. Ian Neale record shows up on the World Record Acadamy website. When I go to Guiness site and run a search of eggplant or aubergine it comes up blank. It does say that not all records are available from the search.

Now to decide on varieties to try

I just want to thank Brad for making me google 'huge african eggplants'. I don't recommend it...
