Are there other tools on the web to help me search the US Grin? Yes! With maize, there are other resources on the web that will help you search the US Grin and piece
together the complicated relationship between different landraces and cultivars of maize.

The most important one that I’ve found is the Maize Genetics Database.

There are many important tools on the Maizegdb for helping you search the US Grin.

For example, you know about ‘Jala’ maize; so we do a search on ‘Jala’ at the top of the
page

You can actually link back to the US Grin to see specific seeds they have of Jala. (*note*
this is not every seed inventory listed in the database for Jala.)

Description: Jala race
Comments:
Very tall, very late maturing plants. Very long ears with large, white dent kernels. In
its pure form, Jala is found only in the Jala valley (1,000 m altitude) of southern
Nayarit state in western Mexico.


As you can see, the parent races of Jala are Comiteco and Tabloncillo. You can click on
them as well and read about them. This gives you clues about other giant varities of
maize. You can use this to research these varieties on the US Grin, or google search the
words Comiteco and Tabloncillo to possible find clues about their heights.
