Hi,

I searched this part of the message board for a general lead on what is the best fertilizer in general after the fruit has set. But there are so many messages containing different NPK-values, for different purposes etc....

First of all, I don't want to throw too much money at it, so I'm not going to buy many different products.

I already have a 16-9-20 fertilizer I use on other plants.

Is this a good fertilizer in general or is one of the values much too high or low?

Thanks in advance for your reaction!

using what you have is always a good way to start. You will find that no two growers do everything the same, in part because of personal preference, and in part due to differences in their pumpkin patches. After fruit set, I use miracle grow for tomatoes 1/10 strength every time I water or 1/2 strength weekly. I also add 1/2 as much epsom salt as miracle grow each time. Watch your leaves, especially the new growth. The color and vigor will tell you if you need more or are over doing it.

Miracle grow is a typical American product I think. Can you tell me what's in it?

Miracle gro water soluble tomato food is 18-18-21. I prefer Schultz tomato food: 17-18-28 plus some micronutrients. I usually don't use any of these until September when growth starts to slow down. I may use some earlier this year to make up for losses due to excessive rain and flooding.

I like the micro nutrients in Miracle grow. few products contain calcium, magnesium, and micro nutrients because calcium and magnesium will often precipitate out of mixed solutions.
