longshot but anyone have a 1059 Vincent McGill they could part with? This seed is getting old and if out there it needs planted. I will give it excellent care. I have some decent seeds to offer in trade. rchtitanic@yahoo.com

I have had two selfed 1059 seeds produce a cream colored pumpkin so it can be a risk with the selfed seeds. Have grown the 1059 two times and produced beautiful Orange both times.

It wasn't Johns 907 that gave me a light colored one so it may be a good alternAtive to the 1059. I haven't been growing that long but heard there is a white gene in the 1059 background. Maybe someone with more experience can help out.

Good conversation! I don’t believe that a cross is better or inferior based on selfing or crossing. I have seen great orange crosses that are stinkers in one cross and world class in the same cross but from a different grower. Consistent orange and round shape is close to impossible but add in the heavy to the chart trait and this would be like finding the Hope Diamond. I am currently working on a cross that hopefully will check some of the boxes in 2 more generations. The 907 has produced almost all red orange and decent shape. We got lucky with the selfed cross as the mom was one of the best shaped dark orange pumpkins that we have ever grown.
