I planted 50 tomato and pepper plants approx 2 feet apart along the front and side borders of the patch. They cover about 1/2 of the total border of the garden. They eat good and should provide some wind protection but the main point is to shield the pumpkins from the types of delinquent teenage vandals that I was at one time. I never did smash a giant pumpkin but I bet I would have if I'd seen one. Another beautiful 80° Day here in Eastern PA.
