2587 DeBacco '25 DMG (F 2154 Sperry '23 x M: 2670 Thompson '24) +18% Heavy!
Absolutely shocked at the weight (and also the formation of the small soft spot), but everyone was very supportive and congratulated me on the weight and the impressive percent heavy. While it was a bitter sweet end, it was nice to have it happen in front of other growers who know the challenges first hand and can appreciate the weight and dedication that went into producing this pumpkin despite the damaged classification.
After the weigh-off concluded I went and did some data searching and as of the date of my pumpkin was weighed.
There have only been. 12 pumpkins that have weighed heavier (including DMG entries) 8 different growers/teams that have weighed a heavier pumpkin 3 pumpkins grown in the USA that have weighed heavier
The weight of this pumpkin plus an additional 163 pounds would have been a World Record. Heaviest Pumpkin to be DMG at a weigh-off Ever.
This supports the ideas I have developed and refined over the years and shared with others to help improve plant performance. What is also interesting is I have not changed much over the last three growing seasons, but this year I was (almost) go the full distance.
