Last fall Matt Radach offered a few of his seeds and my 15 year old niece in Missouri grew his 977 seed over the summer. If I lived closer she'd have had a bigger pumpkin in the end but for a 15 year old's first time, and next to zero help from any adults during the growing process, it turned out well. Best of all, she wants to do it again next year as a FFA project. She was having trouble deciding on a field of study for college with an agriculture tie in. The pumpkin growing, and going to a recent farming seminar with my sister and brother-in-law via the extension office, has her leaning toward agronomy.
