Day 100: F: 2154 Sperry '23 (x M: 2670 Thompson '24)
OTT = 465" Est. Weight = 2,112 pounds Avg. over last 10 days = 10.4 pounds per day
Overall, this is an impressive pumpkin and plant as it continues to have double-digit gains even at 100 days old. Despite it only peaking at 40 pounds per day back between day 20-30, what it has lacked in high daily gains during the summer, it seems to be trying to make-up with longer continual growth. On the scale it does not matter how the pounds get there as long as they find their way by harvest time.
This is officially the largest pumpkin I have grown to date, so the hope is that it will also be the heaviest. The plant health, diseases resistance and trying to keep conditions as consistent as possible are all contributing factors.
Seeing some cantalouping/netting on the blossom end is hopefully some extra protection that it will hold together. Also there seems to be some orange color coming through at this point in the season which is an extra special bonus in addition to the estimated weight.
It is important to enjoy the process because things can change in an instant. So, far it has been a good growing season, the hope is that it continues right up to the weigh-off, but time will tell.
