We've had two pumpkins on the vine for three weeks in the 150sf patch. It's a Vanhoutte seed at DAP 19. The fruit on the main vine is gaining weight at a rate of 15 pounds per day this week. We have a second pumpkin growing on a secondary vine that is several days younger. The bigger pumpkin tapes at 154 pounds this morning but isn't looking great, even though it continues to gain weight consistently. It's had some dimpling from the start, but as of July 4th weekend it was the first and only pumpkin that lasted more than 5 days after pollination.
It's probably a good thing that I kept the backup because I'm guessing the primary might not be around this time next week, although after some rain, lots of fertilizer, micronutrients, and fans on the trunk, stem, and blossom, I hope it proves me wrong.
It's progressing faster than my Shuck seed last year because I have a better nutrients and more experience. I am learning things this year that should help me improve for next year too.
If I can keep it going until Labor Day weekend, I will definitely have a new personal best weight although it's looking like I might not achieve my 500 pound goal.
