I decided maybe I should try the 188 leaf competition this year myself, but I was surprised to count 288 leaves on my 150 sq ft plant. So the God of pumpkins has spoken, and 288 it ought to be, and I already like that number better because it will be more of a mid level competition, where weights could average in the 1200-1500 lb range, with some possibly near 2k?

I counted the leaves by throwing grit on them one by one, otherwise it would have been hopelessly difficult task for me. I can wash the grit off tomorrow.

This will be good for me, I was starting to wonder if I had run out of new things to try. My attitude is one where I may as well throw in the towel if I dont have something slightly new to try next year.
