Here's some third stage growth that I cut from my plant three weeks ago. This one vine was thrown into the leaf compost pile and rooted itself in somehow. This is pure leaf compost and not fully broken down. The plant looks excellent which I find surprising. The last three years I've added this compost to my garden in the fall, but I've always worried that it wasn't broken down enough in the one season and maybe it was locking up nitrogen like we've all read about. I'm not as worried anymore when I see this plant growing wild. It certainly likes the pure leaf compost.
