I tried running a few test germs where I created a nest of starting mix within native soil directly in a 1 gallon pot with no peat pot. One didn't germ and the other cam up damaged with some mold on the seed So I am not willing to risk that method on my keeper seeds. This is my solution. Poked holes all over the peat pot so the roots have many avenues to expand out into the surrounding soil.
