It is August 4th and I already have my pumpkin picked for the Woodstock Fair that is 25 days away. Not an ideal situation but I chose to remove the plant as it was continuing to show signs of wilt. It will be a little while before I can put the pumpkin on my trailer, so for now the simple umbrella will hopefully be enough to keep the pumpkin protected.
Also based on previous pumpkins that I have weighed multiple times after harvesting that were around 1,000 pounds I have seen about a 1 pound loss per day after harvest. So, to me a 25 (or so) pound loss was better than potentially loosing the pumpkin to a vine rot that could have entered the pumpkin and caused it to rot from the inside out. Hopefully I was aggressive enough and caught the disease early so this pumpkin can make it to a weigh-off.
