ok mother nature....you asked for it. you turned off the heat for the next week, so i am adding some of my own. had to wrestle with the plastic last night a bit and again this morning. connections tore at various places in the wind and rain. no damage to the plants, but enough was enough. i said hell with that 4 mil crap and went and got some 6 mil rolls and improved the temporary greenhouse over the 1385 and 1161 plants. the plastic goes to the ground on the outside of the north fence (where the cold north wind will blow from for the next week) and to the ground where you see in the picture. the left fence line has no plastic and will allow for ventilation through the fence. the other side to the right is vented wide open as well and goes to 4' from the house. this should provide some nice warmth for the soil and plants but not create an oven situation. i only want to increase the temps by 10 degrees cuz it is going down to mid 40s for lows and i do not want too large of temperature fluctuations from mid 40s at night and to 90 or 100 degrees if sealed totally up. it was fun having a late season project and putting the noodle to work. never did staple it to the fence. both sides of the plastic sheets are just weighted down with bricks and rocks so this plastic will be re-usable for years to come. these are my prime 2 planting spots, and it is nice knowing if frost comes early for any year onwards, i got it covered at least on the 2 honey holes.
