Welcome to my 2009 Giant Pumpkin growing diary. My name is Russ Pugh and my handle here on bigpumpkins.com is "vineman." Last weekend (March 17th)I cut down and tilled in my cover crop of vetch, bell beans,and sweet peas. It was in full bloom, which is when the nitrogen content is supposed to be at its height. Today I tilled in 150 pounds of elemental sulfur (to lower my pH-which was around 7.5), 400 pounds of gypsum, and some Grub Ex (to kill cucumber beetles).
