Rainy and slower start to the season, but all the plants have at least one pumpkin set. This year I'm growing the 2907 Paton in the prime patch, 2480 Graham in the second, and the 1461 Rodebaugh (Ruby) in the front patch. All vines have been terminated but still need to choose keepers. All pumpkins treated with Anthesis so will get a slow start as their cell divides for longer.

Update on my pumpkins. The pumpkin on the 2907 Paton plant is the leader in the patch - 20 days old and estimated 129lbs. It's way ahead of the 2480 Graham last year. Both were treated with Anthesis. So if the Anthesis was effective I'll be very happy with the growth. We'll see. The pumpkin on the 2480 Graham plant is 22 days old and should reach 100 lb tomorrow or the day after. It's on par with my 2480 last year. The pumpkin on the 1461 Rodebaugh is 16 days old and still a few days away from 100 lbs. It's been the fastest growing in the patch but slowed down a little yesterday (maybe due to the weather), but it's already very yellow.

In the patch I still have 3 pumpkins going. One is going well (the 2907 Paton), one is going okay (the 1461 Rodebaugh), one is going not very well (the 2480 Graham). The 2907 is a nice white pumpkin and is my largest Day 30 ever. My 2480 was significantly smaller at this stage, but had a higher rate of growth at this age. So I think it'll be a decent pumpkin but not a monster. The 1461 Rodebaugh is going to be a pretty pumpkin (obviously) and is a yellow that's darkening every day. The 2480 Graham is a weird shape, something I've had a problem with in past years maybe due to poor pollination technique. Lots of rain and very humid in the northeast has made for a very different growing season than last year which hardly had any rain at all. All the plants are exhibiting weak newer secondaries, often terminating in clusters of flowers. I took tissue tests comparing strong and weak secondaries but didn't see any significant difference between them. So that remains a mystery. I'm going to see if I can fill up the patches a little more with some of the older secondaries to compensate.

The 2907 Paton is doing pretty well, but isn't growing at a 2480 pace - more like the 1832.5 pace. I had to remove a secondary a few days ago after I saw three dead or dying leaves in a row and orangey brown discoloration in the vine cross section. I didn't see any squash vine borers. I asked my friend MD for advice and was prescribed a drench of TKO followed by a foliar spray of it later. I'm not seeing any further spread which is good. The other two pumpkins are growing very slow. I'm not sure why, but the plants haven't done well with the weather.

p.s. thanks again MD!
