Started my 3 seeds today. 1626 and 1567 D. Gantner and 1044 Gansert. Filed and soaked for 1.5 hrs in warm water and a splash of liquid keep and peroxide. Going for orange this year! Last year was my first year and although it was fun, I was jealous of all those pretty pumpkins in September and October! Gonna try the 150 sf contest. Not sure which I'll be using for it tho. Thinking the 1567 since it's unproven for orange. Not sure what will show up due to its pollinator. I'll probably self them all but unsure on that as well.

Didn't really post much this year on here but wanted to give an update with some photos. Lots of ups and downs. I grew 3 plants this year. Ended up letting my 150 sf entry's vines (1626 Gantner) run free as it was growing so well, I felt bad holding her back. And in the end, I'm glad I did as it was my only pumpkin to make it to a scale. The others went down on me throughout the season. :( With that being said, we had a great time Sunday, Sept 29th at Wasson's Nursery Weigh-off in Fishers, IN. My Gantner 1626 x self ended up getting my goal of hitting 1000 lbs, and then some! It's now know as the 1148 Lengerich. It took 3rd place and got the HD award! 6% Heavy. First place was Mark Goodman's new state record 1781 pumpkin. 17% heavy! Wow!

Blossum end the night before the weigh off. She shined up great! This was after hand rubbing with a bunch of dry rags. The pumpkin's coating seemed to gum up the rags after a while so they needed to be changed out often. By the end, I was using old t-shirts, as I was running out of rags and socks!

Forgot to mention that I ended up growing a 1501.5 Wagner and 718 Morgan this year instead of my initial lineup. I had troubles with the 1567 Gantner and 1044 Gansert seedlings dying on me, which was my fault, not the seeds'!
