Grabbed a few things laying around in the pumpkin shack. Clip on light, 16 gallon tote and bought three 75 watt spiral light bulbs that are 6500K. 6500K is almost the same as the light we get from the sun. Not nothing fancy. But after doing a search on the internet, 6500K light bulbs make a huge difference on plants. This year plants are the best I've ever had. Short and stocky and very healthy   Sunday, August 6 View Page Worse year ever growing giant pumpkins and squash. We have had record rain here in Oneida County,New York. Rains on average 5-6 days a week. Mostly heavy cloudy days. Plants are was behind. Luck if I get a 1,000 pounder this year. Has tornado type winds Friday around 4:30 with lots of hail and heavy rain. Than late at night we got hit again. Only had to water the plants a couple times. Good possibly when I pull the plants many of the vines might have some rot from all the rain. 57.09 inches of rain for the year is the record here in Oneida County. As of right now we have 54.71 inches. With five months left in the year, It looks like the record will be blown out of the ballpark for sure..   Thursday, August 31 View Page Sad day today! Had to lay to rest my 2066 Geddes. She was a great contented. Ten days ago she was drinking very well and gaining some great weight. Was heading towards the 1,000 mark. She was averaging 32 pounds a day. Services were private at Pumpkinbrat's Patch. With the 1694 Geddes and the 961 and 1072 Haist attended. Pumpkin Doctor said she had a bad side do to hemorrhaging inside which made her right side very week. She had a good burial in the compost pile. We all wepted as we said our good byes.   Friday, September 1 View Page As you can see from Porkchops diary, here in the Mohawk area in Central New York we have had the worse Spring and Summer ever. Cold and wet, not much sunshine all season. We have a new record for rain fall,58.50 inches. September is usually the wettest month of the year.
