it doesn't make much difference anyways because its gone down to a BES. Dissapointing that I wont have a pumpkin to take to the weigh in this year but that's how it goes

most of the fortey marrows look like this, fairly happy with the shapes of them lets hope they don't all split. The marrows on my own seeds are coming bent again like they usually do, my battery died before I got to take a picture of one of them

the outside plants have taken some wind damage and are going to be a little later pollenated, ive 2 plants left to pollenate out here hope to get them all set this week. Ive many plants this year as you can see haha although they are smaller than previous years so hoping to avoid the dreaded splitting with a few but im not sure if the plants will be big enough to grow a real big one but time will tell

Well of the four stains of marrow seeds ive been growing ive had mixed results. This striped marrow grew from a seed from a grower unknown to me, was from the seed I bought off ebay. I only planted one of these seeds and ive a fairly nice marrow which is 38 inches long. It grew for about four weeks and I think its just about done now.

I grew several of peters seeds, this one is the largest and is about 45 inches long its sunk on the back end which I don't think is a problem however it has stem issues. The stem seemed to be growing away from the marrow on one side so I tried to re position the marrow a little to relieve stem stress and I heard a little crack. I haven't touched it since so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Weve been suffering dill rings with the fortey marrows and ive lost three of them already to splits which is a shame because the skins look so young I think they would grow for a long time

A marrow I had going on one of my 78 seeds. This one split on a dill ring it was 45 inches long and I estimated it at about 130-140 lbs and it felt heavy however it weighed 115 lbs and I must be getting weak.

This is another marrow I have on one of my 78 seeds, this one looks to be a better shape and is perhaps my best chance of a big marrow at the moment. id say its around 110 lbs based on the weights of the other two I weighed

most of my marrows are done growing now so I weighed a few of them on the bathroom scales this afternoon so I can start clearing up in the patch. To sum up the season id say it was too hot growing the marrows in the tunnel and most of them ripened far earlier than they should have done, the outdoor plants were someways behind pollination and were looking more hopefull until the weather became unsettled and then they started splitting. Heres the striped marrow it weighed 100 lbs

103 DMG (78 Baggs x 115 Glavebrook) on the left
118 DMG (115 Glazebrook x Sibb) on the right
Weighed these two today, they both went down to stem splits a week or so ago but ive left them on the vine to see how much bigger they would get however one of them started to develop a rotten area so wanted to get a weight of them before it was too late.

Nice and thick. Ive taken seeds out of both these two marrows as I think these are two of my best crosses hovever we will have to wait and see if they are viable or not as they weren't proper ripened.

Well my diagnosis of a blossom end split earlier in the season was a little off, I didn't probe it about just assumed the worst. What actually happened was the blossom completely rotted off and then seemed to dry up. So I have a small pumpkin to take to the weigh off on Saturday plus my last two marrows
