Plants are outgrowing the pots. Almost ready to go out into the garden.

Tuesday, April 26 View Page
These T5 Bad Boys throw an amazing amount of light. The Pumpkins seem to love it.

Wednesday, May 11 View Page
The 2230 Wallace at left and 2145 McMullen on right. I like the new 10 ft long x 6 ft wide Green houses. Should give the plants a little longer time to grow in the green houses

Wednesday, May 11 View Page
My 7 Giant Tomato plants are set outside in their mini green house. I open it up on warm days.

Wednesday, June 1 View Page
Took down 3 Pines and removed the bottom of two large Norway Spruce tree's. To let a little more evening light shine on the plants.

Next day June 3rd I started to clean out the branches. A lot of work for an extra 1/2 hour of sun.

Sunday, June 19 View Page
Ron gave me this 1790 Wallace. One of his extra plants. Main is out about 10 ft now.

Sunday, June 19 View Page
My 1961Sperry is doing OK. I planted it in low grade topsoil with no nitrogen, so leaves wouldn't bloat up and turn blue. That worked, but the leaves look cal-mag deficient.

Sunday, June 19 View Page
nice to be up in the morning...in the patch

Sunday, June 19 View Page
Phew!!!

Sunday, June 19 View Page
I see you!!!

Maters are growing fast now that the heat is on... 7 plants this year.....Growing the following (2) 8.41 McCoy, (2) 3.32 Connolly, (2) 5.51 Megamarv, (1) 5.03 Lyons.

Sunday, June 19 View Page
Some mega-blooms successfully pollinated this week. This year I'm keeping the plants uncovered until the Maters are about as big as a baseball. Then plastic covering goes up to keep the maters dry and (hopefully) disease free.

Sunday, June 19 View Page
Here is the 1961 Sperry

Sunday, June 19 View Page
Also growing some cherry tomato's and potato's in raised beds

Sunday, June 19 View Page
Got one set on the 2145 McMullen at 15 ft. Crossed it with the 2230 Wallace. I'm growing it in fresh Low grade topsoil though, so plants should make it without rotting out or blowing up, before end of season. Hopefully this comeback results in a decent pumpkin or two.. Going for 1000 pounds. Set the bar low this year.

Another boring sunny warm morning in the Pumpconn patch. Just the way I like it!

Got a nice on set on the 2230. Crossed with the 2145

Mega blooms equals big ugly Mega Maters. This one is on the 5.51 Mega Marv

Sunday, June 26 View Page
My Giant Roma Tomato's are starting to appear. This one in on my 3.32 Connolly. Topped the plant off at 4 ft today.

My Culls are starting to fill up the compost bin.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
My 2230,2145 is starting to take off

Saturday, July 2 View Page
My reverse cross. A 2145 x2230 is set at 15 ft out too. Nice long stem. But its starting to pile drive and push the blossom under. I can fix this because I'm going to reposition it early in the season. I should have the blossom end up higher in my next entry.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
The 1961x2230 is set at 15 ft out on the main and ready to grow. It was tough culling the 2 basketball sized early sets at 10 and 13ft . But now I have 15ft of power behind this one. I still haven't culled the backup which is 17 ft out on the main. I'll keep it a little longer...just in case.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
The 1790x2230 is set at 14ft. A backup is set at 15 ft, but its stem has some issues, which concern me a bit.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
Here is my 1790 backup at 15 ft. As you can see the stem had a secondary vine growing out of it. I trimmed it, but not sure how it would grow. It probably will get culled.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
Lots of vines ready to be buried this morning. But I'll wait till tonight. All that rain last night and the cold weather this morning has created the potential of brittle vines which can snap and break easy.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
At the community garden I have a 5th pumpkin. I pollinated this back up 1961x2230 16 ft out on the main today. But I have one set at 14 ft which is probably my keeper.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
Here is the one I'll probably keep, at the Community Garden. Its a 1961x2230 also and set at 14ft on the main

Saturday, July 2 View Page
Darn spotted Cucumber Beetles attacked yesterday. Spryed with Merit75 wsp, and Warrior T. Problem solved.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
Did an Abound and Eagle 20, Root Shield biological Fungicide drench yesterday. Hopefully I don't have any foamers this year.

Saturday, July 2 View Page
The Giant ROMA Tomato still looks like a turnip. Hopefully the blossom end fills in

Saturday, July 2 View Page
This Mega Marv is starting to grow rapid. Its perfectly healthy but I dusted it with Captan black spot fungicide as insurance. Soon all 7 Tomato plants will be covered in my mini green house and shielded from rain. So the Maters will stay dry, and prevent potential for rot. I'll need to start hand watering...

Saturday, July 2 View Page
I'm letting the secondary's grow a little more until the pumpkins get over 50 pounds. They are out to 18 ft now, but will slowly get trimmed back to 16ft in the next few weeks. Using Pumpkin Pro mycorrizae under every leaf node.

Monday, July 4 View Page
Time to hang on for the ride. The 2230x2145 is kicking in to another gear. I've got two backups on this plant at 17 and 18ft, just incase this one blows up.

Monday, July 4 View Page
I got a woodchuck that is eating the leaves. He has been avoiding the 4 traps I set last week. Using the scope on my rifle this problem could be solved in a minute

Monday, July 4 View Page
This thing is amazing. At 50 yards I can hit a coke can. The scope is awesome. Looks like I'm right on my target. It is subsonic, but the 12 inch silencer is still needed. I use pointed steel pellets, which measure about 18mm caliber.

The 2145x2230 is looking good. Nice long stem... Growing a bit slow though.

Garden is almost full. All 4 plants in the main garden are running out of room. All secondary pumpkins have been culled. Its fish or cut bait time.

Friday, July 8 View Page
The 7 Tomato plants have all been cut at 4 ft. The tomatoes are all pollinated and growing. 1 per plant. They were covered to keep the Maters dry. I'll hand water the plants from here on in.

We went to visit Charlie Lieber today. All I can say is Wow!! Thanks Charlie we had a great time.

Sunday, July 10 View Page
Started my annual dusting of the Stems with Sulfur. When they crack a little due to rapid pumpkin growth, mold looks for a way in. I bet SVB's don't like the taste of sulfur either

Sunday, July 10 View Page
Its hard to tell from this angle, but I'm starting to swoop the secondaries before the pumpkin forward, parallel to the main vine. I do this to maximize nutrient intake from these long secondary vines.

Sunday, July 10 View Page
The pumpkins are starting to break through the canopy

Saturday, July 16 View Page
The 2230 (23 DAP) is going to be Orange. Too big to move by myself and Main is starting to kink. Norm Gansert and I will get this bugger moved to relieve the stress.

Saturday, July 16 View Page
The 2nd 3.32 Connolly has this Giant Mater on it at 15 DAP

The 1961 at the Community Garden, will be a Great White too. I mulched in 2 yds of Chicken Manure (from Little Rhody Farm) and 2 yards of composted Cow Manure from the local farm last September. Looks like its working.

Monday, July 18 View Page
The 3.32 Connolly is growing very fast. Unfortunately the mega bloom on this one was only a 3 lober. Time to get my panty hose. We shall see, what I can get out of it in a couple weeks.

Monday, July 18 View Page
Oh-oh. Time to move the 2230. The main is starting to kink.

War of the World.....All my remaining vine ends decided to strike a Cobra pose, tonight, just before a huge storm comes in like some kind of War of the Worlds aliens. In the background you can see the War of the Worlds silver stinger on the mother ship. I got way to much time on my hands tonight. Can't do anything cause its pouring rain and Lightning outside

I hit the road today and ended up at Ron's house at 7:30am. Wanted to personally thank him for sharing his Spray program last winter. Ron is a really good guy and helped me "Fix" my soil this year, after 5 years of problems in the patch. Thanks for the help Ron. I got 5 sound pumpkins and 1 month to go. Your fungicide program to clean out the phyto was a major reason for this comeback attempt. And special thanks tho Matt Debacco, and Joe Jutras for convincing me to haul out 30 yards of "bad soil: and bring in 30 fresh yards of Topsoil. This clean soil has been problem free so far. And attached photo is a pic of Ron a monster long pumpkin from his 1790, taken on Aug 21st. Its Big! Very Big!

Thanks Russ for letting us use your Flatbed truck at the last minute for the 2075.5 Pumpkin. It would not have fit in our 6'x6' trailer. Our Flatbed trailer with a 7 ft x 7 ft platform should be ready in two weeks. Next time we'll tie it down.

Almost Empty Nesters. This is our last pumpkin in the patch. The lonely 1790x2230 sits and waits for Frerichs Farm next Saturday October 8th. We'll try to beat Pap's Humongous Pumpkin.

Another angle to show more of the pumpkins. Far upper left corner is the eventual winner ...the 2261 Wallace.

Easy decision. I brought the 2075 to Roger Williams Park and Zoo. They will carve it for thousands to see..And I'll go and get my seeds.

And there was a huge, massive, humongous pumpkin at the Weigh-off that went way of the chart. The new 2261.5 grown by Dick Wallace. He must of had his picture taken over 500 times. Gets kind of tough to stand there and look pretty for every picture
