My "helper". It makes spade forking packed dirt a breeze! Flips it right over and no strain on my poor broken back. Someday, I will have a tractor!

New leaves since planting out are better on everyone, thankfully! They had to wait on mother nature too long in their pots! I think. They are all doing much better. Spencer's melon and pumpkings 298, waiting for the maybe hurricane to go away.

Pleased as punch with growth. New leaves since planting out one week ago look great. Coming has begun! I'm being ultra proactive this year on keeping the emerging vines on the ground. Last year I didn't and I had ski slope stumps, and foaming stump. This should help, I think. Anyway, pictured is the 817. All babies are putting out between an inch and two inches of new growth daily.

That really should have said vining. Damned cell phone and it's auto spell.

Got all the stumps cleaned up today, and added the little glad covers and some captan. Had a "duh" moment when I found 5 of my 8 plants were double vines. Cut all those off.

One of my " pumpkin saddles" Loooool! This working out really well for keeping the main running on the ground. They weigh just enough that in the morning the little mains hold them up, but by evening the main has come gradually to the ground. I then cover the node and slide the saddle forward. *cough* my N is "a little" high. Tested ph on everyone and found some high, some low, some just right. So added a wee bit of sulfur to start helping them, and lime to the guys bathing in the equivalent of Orange juice. *eye roll*

Two days after removing the double mains, my babies are ALL rolling along now! YAY

Me, finally getting to use my Christmas present. After much craziness, plants are coming along. I'm not in the running this year for anything big now, but at this point, and after everything they have been through, I will be pleased to get some nice 200-300 pounders. Crazy ass season.

My 817, Selfed. I love this plant. Good God the growth and female make fest on this plant. It's lived through every issue this year and hasn't batted an eye. If this sets, and it should as it's nice and cool, its the keeper at 17.4 feet out on main, which puts 400 square foot behind the baby. YAY.

The 734 Glasgow. So far no baby on the main. I'm steady setting girls on secondaries. This one, and likely one today.

This is the 985 Hertzfeld. It's a gorgeous baby on the very first secondary.....which is only one of three vines so far. Very bad year, that this plant is seven still growing, let alone producing is amazing....did I mention the 7 mains it tried to grow? Lol. Hope plant makes it, this one is a 5 lobe.

Not to be out done by all the hot shot genetic wonders, my little groovy through a 5 lobe too! Take that super genetic wonder plants. Lol. Looks like she will remain miss groovy too. :)

Well. I got salad, and I got babies. After this morning's round of pollinating, my kin count over all 9 plants has reached 30. Yes, 30 kins to sort out and decide who gets the axe and who lives. Mind boggling. Anyway, here is my Groovy, DAP 9. She measured 65 OTT last night. No danger of her getting the knife!!

Syntax error the first try, so here is second attempt. My little Groovy. Lol.

Really? This a little piece of vine from a tert I cut off the 817 Bond last week. I see this and I have to ask myself why I spend oodles of hours killing myself babying these plants. Lol

Monday, July 13 View Page
734 Glasgow "E". I'm hanging onto both for now as they are both on the last secondaries on main, (one on the right, one on the left) and none of the main sets have taken.

This squash totally amused me. Likely won't keep it, but good God,how much stem can one squash need?? Steady growing too, last I measured the stem it was 14" long. LOL.

The 822 Bond. Performance just like mom, the 907 Wagler. If she stays true to mommy, any day now she will explode out of the gate growth wise.

Lol. The "real" squash, that I plan to keep....

My winter project 2 years ago, a Selfed 710 Wagler. Short thick stem just like mom. If it grows like mom, this is one plant/kin I don't have to worry over.

My little Groovy. I love this plant, truly. How can you not love a plant that produces year after year bigger and bigger kins without adding headaches from strange growth. Go Groovy go. I have faith in you.

A secondary off the now dead 817 Bond. Broke my heart to rip that plant out. County guy finally came out Matt, he said Bacterial Wilt because of the sticky discharge from the infected vines. Thanks for taking time to answer, either way: Sclerotinia or Bacterial Wilt, still a dead plant. DAMMIT.

Here it is. My new surprise this morning. Sigh. Not sunken, leaking, or in anyway soft. Kin Haas been covered from the start, and nothing sprayed on it.

The last 2 days have been over 100 degrees, with humidity in the 80% range. Daily gains dropped from mid 20's to high teens each day as a result. Better weather coming little guys, just hang on!! :) this is Miss Groovy, she should surpass her last year number in about 2 days.

Tuesday, August 4 View Page
The 985 Hertzfeld continues to drive down the back stretch and attempt to catch the 59 Bond. They are neck in neck during this horrible weather, doing 19 a day when hot, 24+ when it's a respectable 80 something degrees. Either this one or the 59 Bond could give me a new PB, which would be nice.

This thing is going to swallow my basketball soon. Lol. This was a last minute addition to patch as another plant scrapped out early in season.....sure glad I stuck this one in!!! :)

This kin despises high heat. Still holding onto 16 a day during this abismal heat wave. When it cools down end of week she will pop back up to around 24 pounds a day, which makes me smile. It doesn't matter to me if I ever get a record, as long as I learn and improve every year, who cares? Last I checked this was supposed to be fun!!! Well, for me, tons of fun!!!
