Here is the 1421 Jutras planted in an 880 square foot patch measuring roughly 22 feet by 40 feet. The soil is a bit sandy and out of condition, and I was not able to do much preperation other than to rototill in some gypsum. I will be bringing in some compost (about 4 cubic yards) from the local waste management company to add some structure to the soil. I will be planting a 1578 in this patch as well once it fills up it's one gallon pot. The 1578 genetics are great, though the 1421 is very vigourous, so it would be a tough decision to cull either plant. However I still have another 1578 that I will be growing in a smaller patch should I decide to cull the main 1578.

1676 Daletas left and 350 (2009 x self) genetics pumpkin on the right. I should be able to make a cull decision by next week. Meanwhile my potted plants (including long gourds, two squash, and a pumpkin) seem to be experiencing gray mold, and are not looking so good. Luckily I transplanted my main plants before it could spread to them. However, I am still bummed about the long gourds that I am growing because they were hit pretty hard with it. Hopefully I can still salvage a plant or two.

Here is my 1421 Jutras Squash. It is about two weeks behind but I am still hopefuls. I have a pollination tomorrow at about 9 to 10 feet that I will be going with. All of the pumpkins produced by this plant so far have had seeds in the blossom.

Not too shabby for my first time installing drip tape. This is the 1421* with a five lobe set at approx. 9 feet. Luckily there were only a few seeds in the blossom on this set.

Here is the 1421* Jutras with a set at 8 or 9 feet and a roughly 14 foot main. The set (x self) is viable under the stool and is slightly larger than a softball at 7 dap.

Here is the 1421* Jutras at 20 dap. Today's measurements show that it weighs 50 pounds and is gaining roughly 13 pounds a day. The location in which this plant is being grown is far from ideal and this is thus more of an experiment than an actual competition fruit. I've learned a lot about the area in which I am growing and will thus strive to make the growing area more Ideal, starting with a soil test, roughly 3 to 4 inches is green-waste compost to help fix the sandy soil and to level out the slope on which I will be growing, which I will hopefully irradicate with a retaining wall about 25 feet from the highest part of the patch.I will also need to cut the surrounding shrubbery in order to let in more sunlight. A greenhouse would be nice to curb the constant 70 degree temperatures but I think that will have to wait.
