I have five plants out and all have sets on them! I don't think my first plant is going to go the distance as I have seen signs of Yellow Vine Disease. Too bad as It had the first set on it and will be twenty days tomorrow. I dug out seeds I had left over to use this year rather than waste more on my poor skills! Low and behold we're off to a good start, less the disasterous attemps germinating. The star of my plants seems to be the 759.5 Jensen (10)I think, also looking real good is the 845 O'Brian 13. My 368 Boyd 12 is doing nicely. Coming in a shakey fourth is the 831 Beachy 13. The plant with YVD is the 1209 Huffman 12.   Friday, July 18 View Page First set 6-30-14, 1209 X 759.5 First measurement tomorrow. First set on the 759.5 X 1209 (6-30-14) did not take, second set X 845 is going gangbusters! Two sets failed on the 831, may have an open set, and will have a controlled in a few days about 20 ft on the main. The main will be terminated immediately whether or not it takes. First set on the 845 X 368 (7-7-14) looks good, an second was an open (7-12-14), another controlled will be in a few days. The 368 will have three or four total, just for the fun of it. Last year My lone producing plant had three on it totaling over a thousand pounds. So, I'll got three controlled and one open on the 368 Boyd 12. Thought it was done, but it had a 7 inch increase for two days. We did a repeat pollination this morning about six feet further out the main. Broke the flower off a preferred set on the 831 Beachy 13, now I got to wait a few more days for the next one about 24 feet out. I have two open sets going on side vines, so if this fails we'll be done with spending any more time on it.   Tuesday, July 22 View Page 368 Boyd 12 is growing as many decent size kins I can get as it is got the best soil I've got. Three of these are controlled, and one open. One on the main is doing the best of course, with an OTT at 116 on DAP 17. Still weeks ahead of any previous years pollination attempts! The pollinator is the 845 O'Brian 13. No other sets on this plant, all or nothing! The stump is where the frame is, the pumpkin is set at approx. 13 feet. Overall main is about 24 feet. The plant produced about four females on the main, not many on the sides. Maybe I'll be able to get some seeds from this cross. The controlled pollination on my 368 Boyd 12 is moving slow at 185OTT on DAP 30. It was barely putting any weight due to the rot from the stump and vine. Cleaned the soft spot this AM, but it was 8 inches across! Found the stem had a brown area in the center, so the problems weren't going to get any better! Wayne, we had a very low seed count, it may end up less than 2 dozen viable. I believe it suffered a some damage soon after planting. I remember mounding up the soil around the weakened stem, as I tried to stop the foaming I dug deeper and deeper around it. Got it stopped yesterday, but the damage was done. Estimated weight 560lbs.   Wednesday, September 17 View Page Test lift day.
