Needless to say; Have not had much time to update lately..
Plants in the ground
1004 Mohr: This plant is doing great, it is the best looking plant of the bunch. as of today the main is down and running about 4ft long right now. This plant has been doing 100mph down the highway this week.
1102 Pukos: This plant is looking fine, the main is just about down. This one had a really slow start with some super curled cot leaves but seems to be shifting gears now and picking up steam.
703 Guns & 1248 Ford fighting for the same spot, both are doing ok, both are vining neither has touched down yet. Note: No shelter over these.
-----May 25 applied 4oz of Bayer T&S (1.47% Implorid) to each plant, soil drench around plant mixed in with about 3 or 4 gal of water. -----------

PATCH UPDATE:
1004 Mohr: Main about 9.5 ft, The secondarys are just starting to kick into gear,I had left the plant for a few days when I checked on it the first sec was coming out of the top of the main about 2ft long, I cut it off knowing it would cause issues in the near future. The rest of the older secs are about 12-18 inches. Female on at 6.5 I will prune this off. Main vine is buried with mycor at each leaf node. Plant is doing great and growing quick.
1102 Pukos: This plant has just kicked into gear the main is about 6ft, had to cut the first sec on this one also. Main vine buried, mycor appplied at each leaf node.
There is a battle for my last spot, the battle is between the 703 Guns & 1248 Ford.
The 703 is doing good, main is at about 4ft.
The 1248 just about touched down, had some germ issue with my last starting seed and ended up starting this one about 10days after the rest. It is doing good, We'll see if it can turn it up a notch and surpass the 703.

Rest of the Garden update:
Competition Tomatoes; Doing great, starting to bush out they are all around 2 to 3.5 feet tall. I have been picking off just about all the blooms to focus an root and plant growth right now.
Long Gourds: 111 lovelace, doing great it just made the jump over to the trellis and is starting to run.
121 Duffy still in the pot. looking good.
95.5 Guns Wilting severely, I think i might of snapped the stem when I transplanted it, I will prob replace it with the 121 Duffy.
95.5 Guns: I have more started as backups which I will prob grow on another trellis.
TALL CORN:
Jala Maize: Looking pretty good, they have not really kicked into gear yet, I'll have to hit them with some fert. about 5 to 10 inches right now. a couple were topped by either rabbits or ground hogs.
Ortillo Tuxpeno: I grew these in the very back 40 and just about all have been topped by the critters.
CRAVEN SUNFLOWERS:
15ft, 15inch head Guns 08: Looking good most are about a foot or so.
Armaranth:
Still indoors in the cups I have 3 that are starting to grow now (about 6inch) I plan on transplanting them this weekend.

1004 Mohr: This plant is doing some serious growing, it is at about 15ft, Female on at about 12.5ft. Female emerged about 3 or 4 days ago. Secondaries are really taking off now. all vines buried.
1102 Pukos: Growing very well now, main is at about 10ft, female on at about 8.5ft(I will cull) Secs are taking off now. Vines have some random yellowing through them Hopefully this is the orange genes and nothing to worry about. There is a double headed first sec witch split on it's own. all vines buried.
703 Guns: I have to admit I have not put much care at all into this plant but it is growing very well at about 10 or 11 ft with nice thick vines, even the secs are thick vined. I plan on catching up on this plant buring all vines and adding some mycor.
1248 ford: is being dwarfed by the 703, I know this plant can throw some bigones, but the way the 703 is growing I can't pull it. I think I will just leave both in and cross my fingers.

Plants are doing great:
1004 Mohr: I had some issues by the stump area going on and took the proactive approach to hopefully save the stump on this plant. I had a pretty big split by where the secondary was coming out hooking up at the stump are, it wasn't heeling for some reason and started to look like it might become and issue. I cut away some bad tissue cleared out some leaves dug out the soil from underneath to get some good ariflow all around the stump, cleaned with alcohol dried and applied captan to the wounds. Hopefully it will heal without any issues. Also the stump area is has part of the hoop left over it took keep the rain off it.

Pollinated one today at about 16ft, I have another at about 16.5ft (Twins)which will prob. open tomorrow. The one I pollinated 4 days ago (at 12.5ft) is just making touch down down and has a nice long stem on it.
Plants doing good.
I was about 92 yesterday nothing but sun and all of the plants has some pretty good wilting going on, I hit them with the sprinkler for a while and they perken back up.

LG's hit the top of the trellis and are running on top(It's only about 8.5ft tall) Hopefully I'll be digging some holes this year......
Tomatoes are all over the place, I have not had much time to take proper care but I did tie them up and did a little pruning.
Sunflowers: They are kicking it in to high gear now and starting to take off they are all between 2.5 to 3.5 ft. I have about a dozen going.
I have yet to transfer the Armaranth outside yet, it's about 2ft.
Jala Maize: doing ok, I had to put a fence up the rabbits kept eating them down to the ground they are coming back now.

1004 Mohr: I culled the 12.5 footer on friday it was 33cc. It was growing well but the cracks in the stem were pretty deep and long, plus it was at a bad angle to the main so i cut it.
The twins at 16 ft seem to be picking up steam now and will be 10 days old on monday and tuesday, both have very good vine position so they will have to battle these next 10 days out to see who will have the plant to there selfs.

703 Guns: The fruit on at 12 is starting to grow, I had kinda bad angle to the main on this one and was hoping to pollinate one about 6ft down the main tomorrow but upon closer inspection the birds had did a number to the flower exposing the and damaging the lobes.
I deceided to just cut the main after the 12ft fruit and run my last set of secs up in front and grow a half spider out. This will make it a lot easier to not have to battle with that stem stress over the next month.
Note: There are some fine surface cracks on the stem which i
cleaned with alcohol and applied captan too.

I think somebody pulled out there pumpkin voodoo doll and a picture of my patch and gave my patch the PUMPKIN STEM SPLITS curse.
1004 Mohr: At First sight I was happy to see the twins were starting to kick into gear after removing the first fruit dew to stem splits and bad vine position.
After closer inspection I found this Split on the furthest one out. It is pretty deep and almost the whole lenth of the stem. Cleaned with alcohol and painted with captan.
Note: I don't think stem stress could of played to much of a factor in this because the stem was not under any weird pressure.

I know for a fact there could not of been much stem stres on this guy. The other day I dead headed the main right after the fruit, I plan on bring the last 4 secs up and letting them fill the space in front of the fruit.
Anyways the splits on the side go all around the fruit prob about 6 total, they are deeper then they appear thier pretty packed with captan.

1004: Rear view day 20.
I finally culled the other twin today off of the 1004 plant, It was one day older and about 5ott points smaller with not has good vine position, but the keep fruit does have some stem splits which appeared to healed pretty good. So it was a tough choice on which one to cut off I stodd there starring at them for about 30 mins before I made the decision to do it.
The good news is now that the 1004 plant is down to the keep we should see those daily gains start moving up, heck this plant supported two main vine fruits with otts of 149 and 144 on days 20 & 21 along with a 45 side vine fruit which I culled this past wen. So now that we are down to the keep it's either gonna grow big or blow up trying.

This fruit had no competition for nutrients like the 1004 Mohr fruits did, It has been the lone ranger on this plant except for some small ones I leave on in rotation and cull just incase they are needed.
you ask yourself, Why Whitey Ford?........ Next post.

The singe White one is Whitey Jr and is from the 703 Guns. Culled Friday 7/17. Weight 20 lbs.
Pete, This info is for you: The two Yellow Vixens to the right are off of the 1004 Mohr. The smaller one is 45 lbs. The larger one to the right is: CC:60,43,41 =144ott or 73 est on day 21. The actual weight was 72 lbs. yes I used a Human scale to weight them, I do need a life!
This 1004 plant supported the the twins at about 16ft with otts of 144 &149 @ days 21 & 20 along with that side vine fruit. Pretty Darn good considering the 2008 OTT benchmark for a 20 day 1200 lb fruit is 158 OTT.
I will post a zoomed in pic of the culled 1004 fruits, you can see on the larger one the Bright orange is already starting to show by the stem area. Pretty good shape on all 3 fruits in the 1004 plant.

The big boy lg in the center had some issues, This monster was peaking out at about 5 or 6 inches a day till the day of the wind........
I had it hung up pretty good but the wind got ahold of it and blew it around so it slipped off of the stem on on to the vine causing the vine to split about half way through. since then (yesterday) I only gained about 2 to 3 inches. SO this one prob. won't brek my PB.
Good news the light greenie to the right is a thin one and still growing quick so this one could take it to the endzone for me.
I set a few more lg's for another round.

"SPORE WAR...... It's ON!!!"
Note: Very first sign of PM a couple of leafs to the side on the 703. I have not been as vigilant with these leafs as the others on previous sprays. I hit them really good last night.
HOT n Humid perfect spore environment to take over the patch.
I will have to get more vigilant with my Fungicide spray program. I was spraying every 10-14 with Immunox, (eagle) but will prob. starting alternating with daconil every week.

1102 Pukos:
Day: 36
This fruit is Turning into a orange beauty as well, it is a low lieing very gerthy fruit. I am still waiting for this thing to kick on the turbos and give me some monster gains.... Running out of days quick for that!
It's a shame that cataloping on the left side happened, when it was a yougin I neglected to clip it's shade leaf and a big storm came through knocked the leaf over onto the fruit and it was almost as if the leaf was glued to the fruit.

Here Is my largest sunflower head of the year, it is of the Craven variety and measures 18 inches across. My sunflowers only reached about 12 or 13 ft tall this year but overall they had larger heads then last year.

Patch shot:
Plants are still in excellent condition campared to last year at this time, last year at this time I had only a couple leafs left, this year the plants look good and I am still getting new growth and new pumpkin sets on that new growth.
As a note: I used Spectricide Immunox lawn disease control 2% myclobutanal every 8 to 10 days from the beginning of July to my last spray at the beginning of sept.

1102 Pukos:
As you can see I have this Girl growing on a pallet, this was not a planned thing by any means... Just before leaving for vacation I went out to do the morning walk through and found there to be alot of sand kicked up next to the pumpkin after closer inspection I found a burrow hole under the pumpkin, not knowing if the bottom of the pumpkin had been damaged by this animal I knew I had to lift it and inspect the bottom to prevent a end of the season heartbreak!! I dusted off the tripod, and maneuvered it into the patch (Note: hard as hell to do without damaging leafs and vines!!!) Pulled out the hoist and harness lifted and inspected the bottom (Bottom was in great shape) then sat it back down on the pallet all this was done while still connected to the vine. Does not get much funner then this!!

Here is the LG lineup at the OVGPG weigh-off. My LG is the one furthest to the left measuring 94 3/4 inches.
I finished 4th last year with a 95.5 inch gourd, no chance at 4th this year. There was quite a few long ones there.

This is a shot perched just above the world record 1,725 pound fruit looking down the largest combined weight collection of 10 pumpkins ever anywhere in the entire world.
If your into growing pumpkins, This is pretty cool!
And yes, There is two really orange ones in the mix, The skinner fruit is first then the stelts fruit, both very nice looking.

Correction on a sept 22 entry: I stated my sunflower head was 18 inches across, the actual width is 19 inches.
Also, after bringing down the cornstalks and measuring I found the tallest to be about 16ft. Thanks you Brian for the seeds!!
