Hi all, sorry for the novice question and wording. I planted a few large breed pumkin seeds for my son to see a large pumking grow. Only 1 seed took, but the vine was beautiful, so i thought I was on my way. I see the flowers open, and behind them a small fetus pumkin bulb emerge, but the flower dies and the bulb just rots after a few days. I am thinking that my vine is a virgin and will remain that way unless I can pollinate one of the blossums. Is that accurate? I do not have time to grow some boys to take care of the task, so is there a way to get some pollen from a stud farm and artifically inseminate before I miss out on what's left of the growing season? thanks for your patience and guidance.

you can use a male bloom from the same plant to pollinate the female (fetus pumpkin bulb) ....blooms with out the bulb are male and can be used to do the deed :)

thanks tammy! I hope to see another fetus emerge soon. I suspect I just pluck a male bloom and rub him up against the female? is that correct? LOL... feels like I am on a dirty forum here. thanks again

rayNJ, high temps will reduce chances of successful pollination...some cooling methods might be needed (depending on temp, at time of the deed)...shade, ice, fan are some of the common methods. Hope this helps!! Peace, Wayne Grow em BIG!!!

thank you all. I tasked my wife with the act of insemination; she was very gentle (but complained about needing to do the bees work LOL). It has indeed been hot, so I will figure out a way to shade the pumkin & vine from here on out. I'll drop back and let you know how I make out.

cheers
