This is my first try at growing pumpkins. The other varietys of pumpkins im growing are doing quiet well. but the Atlantic giants arent doing so well i have healthy vines the leaves are very healthy about 18in across. But the fruit grow about the size of a fist then start to shrivel up I got one to grow to the size of a football and then we had a big change in the weather and it stopped growing and now its a mushy mess. I have been using fertilizer high in potassium once a week.

Welcome to the madness.
Your post would get more attention on the "new growers" message board but...
High potassium fertilizer should only be used after the fruit is firmly set. For these big guys that means after beachball size. Pushing growth too soon greatly increases mortality as you're seeing.

chet(or Bob) & Sam...check out the seed exchange thread...several offers all ready up, and as folks get seeds harvested, lots more offers will be posted. Be polite, send an email, don't expect elite seeds, be prepared to send bubblie w/ sufficient postage!!!! Grow em BIG!!! Local growers groups frequently offer seed distributions w/ membership. Auctions occur on this site during the winter, w/ super seeds!!! Peace, Wayne

It's possible! But it'll take some carefull planning. Start with the basics; soil, sunshine and water. Soil, get a soil test to see what your soil lacks, or is excessive in. It can take several years to get the soil built up enough to grow a large pumpkin. Sunshine, is a must but can distroy a plant in a short order as well. Many growers utilize shade cloth during the harsh summer months (recommended). Water, depending on your soil drainage will determine how much and how often you'll need too water. There are quite ellaborate systems you can read about on the fertizer and watering thread. Read the many threads on this sight and you'll find many answers to questions you've yet to ask!
