Next time I hear some short sighted remark about how we need to meet Kyoto targets I'll show them this http://en.video.canoe.tv/video/news/science-and-innovation/22328738001/cost-of-cutting-emissions/1477091935001

We only have about 40 good years of global weather records to base global warming on, there is no way to have a definite answer. Also some of the increased temperatures could be explained by urbanization, many of the cities we measure daily weather at were much smaller 40 years ago. When people build more buildings and spread asphalt in the city it increases the temperature because it holds more heat and keeps low temperatures at night higher then rural areas and when the city was smaller 40 years ago. I am not trying to say if human induced global warming is real or not. The argument is how much of it is natural and how much is man made. I don't think we should have drastic tax increases, if the climate is strongly affected by c02 adjustments to energy and infrastructure will be made by themselves. The government is just trying to find justification in order to get more money from people to pay for things that do not work. If alternative energy was the best choice today we would have solar panels on every house already, when oil gets very expensive and money can be made by alternative energy that is when it will happen, not when the politicians say so.

if carbon is the problem then there are only 2 solutions, nuclear power or force everyone to go back to a pre industrial existance. Although I enjoy being self sufficent and rustic camping, I wouldn't want to live that way permanantly.

Without getting into sunspot cycleas and multidecadal oscilations, let me add this: The planet has been both far warmer (the viking age) and far cooler (the little ice age) than it is Today. lest we land centric beings forget, water covers 70% of the earths surface, accounts for over 96% of all heat transfer effects in our climate, and is the one factor that all climate models either ignore entirely or input a ficticious constant to represent the continuously fluctuating levels.

The military is doing their part. Have you seen the new rail gun? A devise that uses a magnetic pulse to fire very large projectiles without using any gun powder. Over 200 mile range I believe.
If we had invested a small percentage of the same money we spend on the military and weapons of mass destruction we would have already come up with a viable renewable energy solution.

Very well put, Spudley. Eisenhour warned us about the industrial military complex and he was so right.

I say global warming is a big lie. Seems like AL Gore wasnt telling the truth. No way on earth could man possibly have such a big effect on nature one shake from mother nature would send us back to thr 1870's. Nature is smarter then you think.

A clinical study will always find what it was looking for, regardless of the dynamics of the natural world. When the anthropogenic global warming folk come to the table, all of their data points to mankind as the source of climate change. An equal number of researchers can come to the table with a purely solar explanation. An equal number of researchers can bring terrestrial volcanism to the fray. In fact, there's better evidence for solar and volcanic causes of climate change. But, you see, a giant ball of hydrogen plasma (the Sun) can't be taxed. A volcano can't be regulated and penalized. But hey, if mankind is at fault, we can make him BLEED money. Pop science always follows the money.
