I grew some Giant Bushel Gourds this year. I started the seeds April 25th and planted in the patch by mid May. One measures 79" circumfrence. The vines are all died down now and I will be bringing them into the barn soon. I know they will take a long time to dry, but can I cut them now and retrieve the seeds and let the shell dry or will the shell rot? Would it be best to just let the gourd dry, which I know will take a long time, then retrieve the seeds? Hoping someone knows about these types of gourds.

If you aren't interested in keeping the shell you can retrieve the seeds anytime. I read somewhere though that if you cut them open before they are dry the shell will rot.

Heres how I save the gourd but get the seed out.
First drill a quarter size hole into top of gourd add steel ball bearings more the better lol. then shake and roll em. let the steel ball bearings do all the work for u.
