I invite you to comment on the latest installment of Pumpkin Cam.
The Checkon 815
It is our goal to document its growth in pictures throughout the entire season.

John, what do you expect to get from the Checkton 815(what size pumpkin)? What cross are you going to make with it?

My personal best is 198.2 - so I hope to at least double that this year. Larry and Gerry Checkon were nice enough to send me one of their 815's and I got some great seeds from the folks in the N.E.P.G.A.
Take a look at my 1999 Diary… you will see just how naive I was!
I only plan on doing two hills, one with the Checkon 815 and the other with the best looking out of the Mongeon 300, McNamee 622, or the Girgus 814. The McNamee is looking the hardiest so far, but I am not ready to make any decisions yet.

I have been going around trying to get good seeds also. It is harder than i thought. I am looking for 825.5 Shymanski seeds and others i believe are good crosses. I would think you will surpass 198.2, my best is 528 uow.

The Checkon 815 has been moved outside. It was growing too tall inside, and I wanted to move it outdoors before it was too tall and spindly.
The seed leaves stayed curled up. The first true leaf is on a long stem so it touches the ground. I think this plant will pick up nicely now that it has been transplanted. The second true leaf is forming and I can see the start of the third.
The Web Cam is now located right inside the cold frame.
