whats with the cofee can bit? i'm guessing that you're using it as a pot. what you can do instead is use a quart container from some ice cream. and its fun to eat it too!

When using a coffee can to germinate your seeds, you use a can opener to cut out the bottom as well as the top of the can, then use the plastic lid as the bottom but poke holes in the lid for drainage. This way, when you transplant your seedlings, you just take the lid off and then slip it into the transplant hole. Also, using some tin snips to cut along the side of the can and taping it to keep the shape will also help the soil come out easier.

The reason I like coffee cans better than ice cream containers is the size. If the weather is not very nice in the first week of May I can wait another week without becoming pot bound.
