Does anyone know if it is like Hep C or something that stays in the body and never really goes away/ where it does damage over time and you can never really get rid of it? If you think you are coming down with a bad case of it... I would think lots of vitamin C could make it less severe and not eating excessive amino acids might help too (because thats what viruses need to multiply). Viruses are grown in egg protein right? Foods that have excess amino acids (broken down protein) will help viruses grow... ??

Our immune system needs to function though so you gotta eat enough for yourself... just dont eat extra or it will go to making viruses... Thats my plan anyhow for dealing with it when it gets here.

I am not too worried but there is a lot we dont know and I feel like this is the calm before the storm.
This may be the biggest (pretty much unavoidable) disease outbreak in a hundred years.

Your whole body is full of protein and amino acids. It doesn't matter what you eat if infected. It will move from cell to cell. If it gets in you and you don't want it to reproduce, make an appointment with the crematorium. Not a practical solution.

There are many corona viruses around, including the ones that cause the common cold. So far it seems to be fatal in about 2% of cases, and then only with those with compromised immune systems, other ailments, or the very old.

Probably the biggest threat from this bug is irrational fear. Our health officials are doing a great job so far. China is different: 5 times as many people, crowded into huge cities, less infrastructure, and questionable respect for life by their government. You have a far bigger chance of dying than corona virus. It is called life, Guaranteed 100% fatal. Nobody gets out of it alive.

Coronaviruses are one and done acute infections like the measles. They should be favorable for vaccine development. Hard to say how the outbreak will play out. The virus may adapt to humans more (was originally a bat virus) and become less severe in the process. I doubt it evolves fast enough to become seasonal like the flu. If the virus isn't controlled and goes global, it may move community to community in waves whenever there's a critical mass of uninfected.

President Trump at the South Carolina campaign rally last night called the corona virus a hoax fabricated by the Democratic Party, again taking advice from know it all Rush Limbaugh so there is nothing to worry about.

Which is it Rodger?....is he a racist because he shut the country down to the most infected parts of the world as soon as the outbreak hit?....or is he saying this is all a hoax...I watched that whole rally...I didn’t hear it that way at all...more fake news

I cant believe the dem media is politicizing this. Trump has great instincts... I wonder if he is right that some fresh air and sunshine will help stop the spread. He may be wrong but at least he is hopeful and we can be too... Regardless of whether he is right or wrong... this is an issue that should unite us equally and make us want to care about each other.

I may not have been completely accurate in my previous post. It sounds like immunity to coronaviruses wanes after a few (3ish) years so people do get recurrent infections. However, this info is relevant to the "human" coronaviruses that circulate and cause cold-like illness. Can't say at this time how SARS-CoV-2 will behave. I'm still optimistic that a vaccine would be helpful in reducing major illness after primary infection.

Just read there may be fifty cases and one death just ten miles from my parents. Government is moving at a snails pace... I see nothing done to stop the virus here whatsoever.

Correction, the people who presumably have it are being monitored. Not sure that will be sufficient to actually stop it... Kinda feeling like: "What century are we in...?" I guess in the past 100 years we've not made as much progress as we might think.

Just look at all the information were being fed. The response time seems slow and the answers seem just as slow and basic. So basic were being told to wash our hands a lot and stay home if were not feeling well. The most common symptoms are Fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

Don't wear masks because there not affective at all against this virus and we don't want to run the supply low.

Use hand sanitizer often. But once again the supply might run low as well.

Mike Pence is made in charge of the U.S. response to the COVID-19. What is the Surgeons General doing? I would think this job would be right up his alley.

Looks like I lost a sentence. Don't use masks because of ineffectiveness and short supply.

What is wrong with common sense? Doesn't it fit into the hate Trump philosophy? Should Trump be generating fear and panic? What good would that do?

Because the virus is so new, there is no vaccine and no antiviral medicine to cure it. Masks help slow the spread: if you have it and cough or sneeze, the mask will catch a lot of the virus you are shedding. But they don't h keep you from getting it unless you have good respirator that seals tight to your face. Supplies are getting tight, and it will be hard for health professionals who need them every day for their jobs to get them.

If you stay home when sick, you aren't spreading it. You can pick up the virus from stuff you touch,so wash your hands.

The Surgeon General has his own specific job to do. So do all of the other agency heads. The Vice President can coordinate between the agencies without taking people away from their jobs where they are needed. If it takes Pence away from his job presiding over the senate, President Pro Tempore Chuck Grassley can take over for a while. He never misses work,so no problem there. Democrats' big gripe against Pence is that he didn't want to give free needles to drug addicts. I guess he didn't want to turn Indiana into a heroin den like the left coast.
