NPR had a guest talking about the 'us vs them' mentality. Maybe keywords 'myth fallacy of the zero sum game npr' would pull it up in a search.
I thought it was important and relevant and worth pointing out. We can grow AND let China, Russia, Iran etc. grow and we dont have to get paranoid about them stealing our piece of the pie. If China gets stronger we dont necessarily get weaker because of that. In fact there is in some ways more likelihood that we will get weak if we overextend ourselves. They didnt quite say this but the idea was... The Asian powers could cause us to overextend ourselves much like we caused the USSR to overextend, and then ultimately fail completely.

The lesson would be... Just be the best country we can be and things will work out better for us than if we implode. (financially, morally, millitarily... add whatever worries you here). I thought that it was a good perspective and that in this century we will need to learn how to lose in a way that doesnt actually hurt us.

Consider that we may be are at a rare/unusual point in history where conflict will likely set us back and cooperation will leap us forward. Not sure if the npr host could fully appreciate the idea in terms of dems and republicans, but it seems to me this approach could be relevant both to internal politics, and internationally. Sometimes those who cooperate together acheive the more than those whn try to win every fight-- & in so doing-- may actually achieve less.

We can achieve great things (if we dont overextend ourselves). And its ok that other countries will achieve great things also.

Seems like a vision for a world that we could all live in.

It is true that we should not over-extend ourselves. All the military hardware is no good if our people are worn out from constant deployments. That is why Trump wants us out of the endless wars, without sacrificing our people.

NPR and liberals are all about the USA losing and other countries passing us up. BHO is a prime example. Told us unemployment, slipping economy is the new normal. hose jobs are not coming back. And he attacked hard work. Told businesses that they didn't build themselves up. Someone else (government) did it for them. He wouldn't take on China over unfair trade, pirating patents, selling copycat, inferior products. I guess he needed them buying bonds to finance his deficits, just like Bush did.

Your NPR person obviously did not understand liberal democrats or conservatives when it comes to cooperation.
Republicans couldn't stand Slick Willy winning, had futile impeachment. Dems are the same with Trump. If they can't win, the will wreck things for everyone.

They all forgot that Trump is different. He makes deals, compromises. His goal was America winning, not a party. He is an outsider that beat both parties. We could have done great things if they had worked with him.

China,,,hyper-sonic missiles,a president for life, building military bases in the middle of the sea between them and the Philippines, and playing with the value of their money.
China will have about 550 warships by 2030.
China has launched an aggressive campaign of “constant coercion” against Taiwan, including interference in its democracy and non-stop cyber-attacks.
China has ground-based laser weapons and missiles and is developing space-based systems to neutralize enemy satellites that the U.S. and its allies use for communications and surveillance.
China has a totalitarian government, and high levels of corruption.
AND THEY FORCE COMMUNISM!
We can keep from overextending,by bringing back corporations/manufacturing,and the billions that go to China's military.

Dwight is right and McP makes a very serious point: As long as we maintain our status as the world economic superpower, we will remain the overall superpower. #keepamericagreat
